Acupuncture and Acupressure

Acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-thin needles (as fine as a human hair!) into specific points in the body.  The stimulation of these points has the ability to alter physiological and biochemical conditions, in order to treat a wide array of complaints.  Acupressure (using pressure on the points, instead of needles) may be used to replace acupuncture in some cases.  Acupuncture and acupressure help to promote the natural healing processes of the body and improves its’ function.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbal medicine is commonly combined with acupuncture, and is the primary method practitioners use to treat patients in China.  At Buechel Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, we carry herbal formulas from a company whose manufacturers comply with International GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), have been certified by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and comply with the new very stringent Chinese GMP standards.  GMP certification means the site and methods employed in the production of their herbs has been subject to a thorough quality control investigation and is in compliance.  The Australian TGA’s GMP standards are some of the highest in the world as dietary and herbal supplements are subject to the same guidelines as pharmaceuticals.  Buechel Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine prescribes herbal medicine in pill form and also provides herbs in powder and raw forms as well.

Chinese herbal medicine is utilized to expedite the healing process.  We use traditional herbal formulas – the same ones that have been used on millions of people for thousands of years!  People on prescription medications can often take Chinese herbs as well.  At Buechel Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, we always verify that the combination is safe.  Patients receive the best of both worlds – the knowledge of the modern, plus the ancient wisdom from the past.

Essential Oil Therapy

We proudly use DoTerra essential oils in all patient treatments.  They are a great complement to acupuncture sessions.  Even our most sensitive patients love the way they smell!  The oils aid in calming, balancing, and rejuvenating the mind and body.

Electro – stimulation therapy

Electro – stimulation involves the use of a machine which gives a gentle stimulation to specific acupuncture points.  This method is often used for pain, smoking cessation, paralysis, and stroke recovery.

Auricular Treatment

Auricular therapy uses tiny seeds held in place with adhesive tape, and are placed in the ear.  The seeds stay in place for 3 to 5 days and patients gently press them to give longer lasting stimulation.  This method is especially helpful for emotional problems, pain, and addictions.

Cupping

Cupping is a therapy which uses glass jars (cups).  They are attached to the skin’s surface by suction.  This method promotes the free flow of qi and blood in the meridians, and is useful to treat pain, asthma, cough, fever, and flu.

Moxibustion (moxa)

Moxa is a modality which treats and prevents diseases by the application of heat to specific acupoints or areas on the body.  This warmth frees the flow of qi and blood, thus relieving pain.  Moxa is also used to help strengthen the immune system.

Tui Na

Tui na is a type of medical massage used in Traditional Chinese Medicine which translates to “push and grasp”.  It’s often used for pain conditions, works to improves blood circulation, and is a useful alternative for people who want a treatment without the use of needles.

Gua Sha (dermal friction)

Gua sha therapy refers to the scraping of a particular body region with a smooth-edged instrument, in order to regulate or normalize bodily function.  It is often used for the treatment of fever (especially in children), hypertension, and pain.

Lifestyle and dietary therapy

Changes in living and working environment may be suggested, as well as dietary habits according to Traditional Chinese Medicine’s principles.  Lifestyle and dietary therapy can be useful to support the body’s healing process.

Ear Candling

Ear candling is a practice that has been used in China, Egypt, and India for hundreds of years.  It is helpful for those who experience frequent infections, allergies, and a relaxing therapy for stress relief.
